Girls on the Run 5k Experience We’re writing to let you know that Girls on the Run will be offered virtually in your area this fall and that students at your school are invited to participate, even though the official site name is not your school. You may or may not be familiar with Girls on the Run, so let me provide a brief introduction. Girls on the Run inspires girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experiential curriculum which creatively integrates running. We help 3rd -8th-grade girls recognize their inner strength and celebrate what makes them unique. Trained volunteer coaches lead small teams through research-based curricula developing the essential skills to help them navigate their worlds and establish a lifetime appreciation for health and fitness. The season culminates with a celebratory 5K, virtually this fall. This program serves girls in a critical life stage, adolescence, when their confidence falls and bullying increases. Additionally, the isolation brought on by COVID has increased anxiety and depression experienced by pre-teen girls. We have redesigned our program to allow teams to meet online, bringing them together for support and providing physical activity which helps manage the stress of the pandemic. The site nearest your school hosting our middle school program, Heart & Sole, this fall is West Prep. This serves only as a geographic home base, as all meetings will be online. Students are welcome to sign up for a site elsewhere in town if they’d like.
